friends-2.jpg    The process of getting to know someone can be much faster when you do it online. To meet friends online, you can participate in these forums and socialize with people. These people might be hundreds or thousands of miles away, or right down the street from you. You can meet people who live down the street, or from virtually any corner of the world. Looking through websites and participating in chat groups, blogs, and sharing videos and music is a good way to meet new friends who share your likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, fears and concerns. When you plan to meet new friends in person, you want to make sure you use your best judgment and common sense. For instance, it is always a good idea to meet new people at a public place and make sure that other people know where you are going. Though the vast majority of Internet users are great people, there are always a few rotten apples in every bunch.

There are many blogs and chat groups about all sorts of topics. You’re sure to find a blog or chat room that interests you in some way, especially since you can always start one yourself.

There are some tips for email users:

Only give your emailfriendster.gif address out to people you already know and trust - not to people you have only met online. Be careful that your email address is not in your profile or other Web sites where people you don’t know can find it. Respect your friends. Don’t give out their email addresses without their permission - and never use emails to bully or manipulate others. Tell someone if you receive a message or messages that are bullying, or make you feel uncomfortable or at danger. Tell your parents, or a teacher, or a counselor at school. even telling your friends can help. Don’t forward spam to your friends, no matter how threatening it is or what you have been promised.

According to the psychosocial theory of development by Erik Erikson, an adolescent need to find his/her own identity. An adult needs to have intimate ties with the opposite sex. And friendster may contribute to this need, illuminating why friendster becomes so popular these days. Thus, there is a growing need of eliminating the ill effects of addiction to friendster. Otherwise, number of “friendster addicts” will continually raise perpendicular to the number of added users. This will then turn identity to role confusion and intimacy to isolation, according to the said theory.
